History of Lamlong Higher Secondary School

The story of Lamlong Higher Secondary School began after World War II when the people of Khurai recognized the growing need for proper education. Local leaders and businessmen envisioned a higher secondary school to serve the educational needs of their children.

Before its establishment, students from Lamlong Keithel and surrounding areas attended L.P.G School. After completing their L.P.G examinations, they had to travel long distances to Johnston High School, Churchand High School, and T.G High School. Due to limited admission and poor road conditions, many students were unable to continue their education, exacerbated by harsh weather conditions.

Seeing this struggle, the community united. On 22nd February 1956, a historic meeting was held at the residence of Shri (L) Laishram Gouro Singh, where a unanimous decision was made to establish a higher secondary school, named Lamlong Higher Secondary School.

The school opened on 19th March 1956, initially offering Classes IX and X in night shifts due to limited resources. This humble beginning paved the way for the school’s growth into a respected institution dedicated to academic excellence and community development.
